Reading this essay, on labor laws in Europe vs America, and Habermas on the sacred and initiation rites, I am thinking about America as an anthropologist might. It is not high school, university, no it is getting into a career with marketable skills, and essentially, renewing that initiation enough over time by being competitive and successful. You are either out or you are in. You have to continually prove your worth to society.
