The scientist tends to make the error by giving the efficient cause for something when it is not needed. Why did this happen? Well, the brain does this, humans desire this, etc. The philosopher makes another error. A metaphysical or epistemological or ethical explanation can be out of place just as much as the efficient cause. Each error should cause the character to think what they are resisting, running away from, by hiding in that safe, well traveled, and familiar terrain.
